1st Ordinary Meeting of the Governing Council

The Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia, Under the Auspices of UNESCO (Tehran ICH Centre) organized its First Governing Council Meeting on 6 and 7 November 2012, in Tehran- Iran.

The two day meeting brings together representatives from participating countries of Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia including Iran (Islamic Republic of), Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, to discuss and adopt the Election of the Pro Tempore Director of the Centre to do the follow up of the procedure; Declaration of the 1st GC Meeting, Creation of a separate budget index for the Centre in the National Annual Budget Law of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Adoption of the majority of the Basic Texts of the Centre, Determination of the Centre's Headquarters; as well as Adoption of the Strategy, Long-term and Medium-term Programmes of the Centre.

In 2006, the Islamic Republic of Iran joined the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and on 28 April 2010 an agreement regarding the establishment of the Regional Research Centre was signed by the Government of Iran and UNESCO. The Centre was officially inaugurated in November 2012.
