In order to promote the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and its implementation in the region, Tehran ICH Centre organized a capacity building workshop with the title of “preparing nominations to the lists of the convention”, from 22 to 24 May 2017, in Yerevan, Armenia.

The purpose of this workshop was to discuss issues on the preparation of nomination files to the world representative list of ICH and to increase awareness of experts about the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.

 

The three-day workshop was chaired by Ms. Janet Elizabeth Blake, official facilitator of UNESCO and official consultant of Tehran ICH Centre, as well as participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, researchers in archeology and ethnography, researchers from national museum of Armenia, and students in the field of arts and culture from Yerevan State University, and representatives from Tehran ICH Centre.

In the course of this workshop and in the opening ceremony, Mr Varham Kajoyan, Head of International Organizations Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RA, and Secretary General of the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO, Ms Yeranuhi Margaryan, Deputy Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Folk Crafts, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, Ms Janet Elizabeth Blake, official facilitator of UNESCO and official consultant of Tehran ICH Centre, delivered speeches. These speeches were followed by reports on Mutual Cooperation between Iran and Armenia during the years of the Centre’s establishment up to now, and about the issues and topics which was going to be discussed in the mentioned capacity building workshop.

The content of sessions included the introduction to the definition and objectives of the Convention, inventory making of ICH, and continued by the discussion on different aspects of preparing nomination files, as well as exchanging ideas among participants. At the end of the workshop participants expressed their satisfaction from the workshop and Certificates of attending workshop was awarded to all participants.
