In pursuance of its policy to hold regional and sub-regional gatherings to safeguard and promote Intangible Cultural Heritage over the region, Tehran ICH Centre, in collaboration with UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office, held a cultural night on the occasion of Shab-e Chelle (Yalda) at Emarat-e Kushk, Tehran ICH Centre, on 26th December 2015.
Entitled Chelle; (“the banquet of the sun”), the gathering started with a welcome speech by Mr. Yadollah Parmoun, Director of Tehran ICH Centre, who also highlighted the role of Yalda as Intangible Cultural Heritage and presented a brief report on Tehran ICH Centre’s activities.
The agenda continued with speeches by Mr. Abdolmahdi Mostakin, Iranian Chief of Culture Department, Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, Mr. Seyed Ahmad Mohit Tabatabei, Chief of ICCOM, Iran, Mr. Sa’dollah Nasiri Gheydari, Secretary General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, and Mr. Mohammad Afsar Rahbin, Cultural Attache of the Embassy of Afghanistan to Iran. The speeches were followed by recitation of verses from Hafiz by Mr. Mohammad Afsar Rahbin.
An address by MS. Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director and representative of UTCO, was also presented.
The programme was, then, followed by a performance by an Iranian puppetry group, and another performance by an Afghan music band, supervised by Master Abdul Latif Sattari, who performed Afghan RABAB music.
The programme ended with a reception with traditional Chelle table food, and a group photo ceremony.
